Bite #18,Card Game Exchange of Personal Information:
Testimony of Nancy Hutchinson:
Groups of students played a card game called “Exchange of Personal Information” and discuss how they felt during the game. The objective is the students will feel more comfortable when sharing information. After the game the teacher then asks, “Were you a little uneasy the first time you were asked a personal question?” ....”Did you become more comfortable as the game went on?” Teacher’s Item: Students share their lifelines with the class.
The objective is that students learn to feel more comfortable sharing with the class and will continue to develop intimacy and trust. After seeing their teacher’s lifeline they are more willing to share information about themselves. To the teacher: Suggest that Michael include his parents new break up because he was sure they would not mind. Students present their lifeline to the class.
If students resist the activity or do not take it seriously their behavior could suggest distrust or poor self esteem. The teacher then will discuss with the entire class the reasons for these feelings and repeat the earlier activities. Teacher’s Item: If you feel the student needs help with personal problems arrange for him to work individually with the school psychologist or social worker.
If several of these students need special attention (hold back private feelings) conduct small group sessions with the psychologist. NO MENTION OF PARENTS! In conclusion I would like to say that we no longer have a school system which puts credence in parental input. In my view educators have taken an “all knowing” attitude displacing parental concerns, objections and insights.
To prove my point I quote from the NEA 1982 “Freedom of Inquiry” under the 82-83 resolution DI titled “Selection of Materials and Teachers Techniques” ------------------ “The NEA believes that decisions on school learning, expenses and teaching techniques, are best made by a teacher who knows the learner. Teachers and librarians, or media specialists, must select instructional or library materials without censorship.
End of Nancy Hutchinson’s Testimony. (PLSturgis Not mentioned but the United Nations Resolution also rejects censorship. UN res. #24 “Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and violation of free speech and press.” UN Res. #17: “Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current social propaganda. Soften the curriculum and get control of teachers Associations. Put the Party Line in text books.------UN Res. #19 “USE STUDENT RIOTS TO FERMENT PUBLIC PROTESTS AGAINST PROGRAMS OR ORGANIZATIONS:
