New York Times: Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation
WASHINGTON — President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.
“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.
The existence of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia.
Mr. Comey wrote the memo detailing his conversation with the president immediately after the meeting, which took place the day after Mr. Flynn resigned, according to two people who read the memo. The memo was part of a paper trail Mr. Comey created documenting what he perceived as the president’s improper efforts to influence a continuing investigation. An F.B.I. agent’s contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.

WNU Editor: I am not sure about this memo (which the New York Times has not seen). It comes from a friend of the FBI Director who is saying that he has this memo .... and he is telling the New York Times what are the contents?!?!?!?! Hmmmm .... I did not now that a friend of the FBI Director can be privy to his private conversations with the U.S. President. Not surprising .... the White House is denying this story .... White House Denies Report President Trump Asked James Comey to End Michael Flynn Investigation (Time) .... and there is also no confirmation or denial from former FBI Director Comey. Another problem with this memo is that it contradicts last week's testimony to the Senate from acting F.B.I. director Andrew G. McCabe who made it very clear that .... “There has been no effort to impede our investigation to date.” This memo was also never brought up when Senators met FBI Director Comey on the many times that they talked about the Michael Flynn investigation, and if there were any Trump-Russia ties (you would think that the FBI Director would tell these Senators if Trump had told him to drop the case). But all of this will not make any difference .... President Trump will be accused of obstructing justice, calls for impeachment will increase, and the media meltdown will continue.
