But Breitbart tells me that Rush Limbaugh thinks the Post was right the first time:
Tuesday on his nationally syndicated radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh said one of the motivations to put such a focus on first son Donald Trump, Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 presidential election was to “dirty him up” before he got a start in politics....The idea that Junior could run and win in New York (city or state -- he's also been mentioned as a possible gubernatorial candidate) was absurd even before we learned about his meeting with a Kremlin-connected lawyer -- Trump Senior won only 18% of the vote citywide, and only 37% of the vote statewide. But given Dad's persistent support in Red America, I think it's conceivable that Junior could win an election in GOP country if he could make a credible case for having roots wherever he decides to run. Wikipedia tells me that he used to live in Aspen, Colorado -- nahhh, too left-leaning. Maybe someplace like Montana, where he campaigned for the successful House candidate Greg Gianforte. In any case, someplace where they hunt a lot and hate the East Coast establishment. You'd think disgrace would be a disqualifier, but look at how well Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum did in the 2012 GOP presidential primaries. So, sure, if he stays out of prison, Junior could possibly run in Republican country. On the other hand, the GOP isn't short of candidates in any red locale, so why would Republicans bother recruiting him, even if he's seen as a victim of a liberal witch hunt? And assuming he stays out of the pokey, is he really going to move to Bugtussle just to run for office in a place where voters might love him?
“We had the caller who said the Trump kids are good-looking and leftist[s] don’t like that,” Limbaugh said. “And that’s certainly true. But, you note the energy with which the media is going after Donald Trump, Jr. And there’s [a] reason: They want to dirty him up. They want to destroy the guy before he gets started on his own political career. He has an obvious interest in politics. I don’t know if you have heard this guy speak. Folks, he is what his dad isn’t in that he is an ideological conservative. And if you have heard him speak, he has got it down. He knows his stuff. And he can sell it, and he can be persuasive with it. And he is the exact kind of conservative they want to destroy before he gets started, especially given they don’t have a bench of their own. That is an added reason for all of this energy in destroying Donald Trump, Jr. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.”
So no, we don't have any reason to be politically afraid of Donald Trump Jr. on a national level, and certainly not here in New York. Keep dreaming, Rush.
