Daily Mail: Tourist boats are tossed around as 7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Mexico leaving at least 248 people dead including 20 children after school collapsed

* Central Mexico was hit by 7.1 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday afternoon that has devastated five states
* At least 248 people have been killed including 20 children who died after their school building collapsed
* American tourist captured terrifying video showing canals of Xochimilco into a raging mess
* Disaster struck days after another 8.1-magnitude quake hit the south of the country, and on the anniversary of a devastating tremor in 1985

This is the shocking moment one of Mexico City's most popular tourists attractions was turned into a frothing torrent when a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the country on Monday

American tourist Alyne Tamir filmed on her phone as the quake's vibrations turned the usually tranquil canals of Xochimilco, in the north of the city, into a undulating, quivering mess.

While she can be heard saying 'it's not a good idea to be on this boat', it seems she was one of the lucky ones as at least 248 people were killed elsewhere.
