* He went far further than previous statements by president, saying: 'This brutal murder of a journalist... will not go without an American response'
* Asked about sanctions, he said Trump will make a decision that reflects U.S. values and national security interests and 'make sure the world knows the truth.'
* CIA chief Gina Haspel traveled to Turkey on Monday and will brief Trump and Pence on her return, vice-president said
President Donald Trump has blasted the Saudi cover-story for the killing of Jamal Khashoggi as 'one of the worst' coverups in history.
Trump made his remarks even as he once again stressed the billions of dollars and U.S. jobs at stake with Saudi Arabia, and for the first time he would let Congress decide how to respond to the alleged murder of the dissident and Washington Post columnist.
'They had a very bad original concept it was carried out poorly and the coverup was one of the worst in the history of coverups,' Trump said.
'It's very simple. Bad deal, should have never been thought of. Somebody really messed up,' Trump said.

WNU Editor: President Trump is correct, and we now will need to wait for the fallout from this disaster. My prediction on what that fall-out will be. Some form of U.S. State Department sanctions targeting individuals, but no economic sanctions targeting the nation of Saudi Arabia. U.S. Congress may impose some sanctions .... but I predict they will be minimal. Germany has cut off military exports to Germany .... but it has not the first time that has happened, and they will be the only ones. Relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia will continue to deteriorate. The Saudi-backed war in Yemen will continue. Saudi Arabia may pump more oil to bring down prices and to "please" the Trump administration.
